Living Out Decisions
Over the past year I have been wrestling with making a big decision that would have an impact on the future of my family. The back and forth was ongoing and nothing seemed clear. Plus it was taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r! Once I put this decision into creative process, tapping into my unconscious to help me see what I knew all along, the decision was finally made and the confidence that came with making this decision had given me an inner peace. However, this peace was temporary because now I had to live it out. This is terrifying! Yes, the decision had been made but it opened up a world that is un-known to me. I don’t have any experiences to help me navigate what lies ahead and before I could make sense of it, fear was creeping in. Fear of failure, un-met expectations, losing control. These are all friends of mine and now this made decision feels like I’m wondering aimlessly through the wilderness, one lonely step at a time.
So how about you? Have you been surrounded by the uncertainty of a made decision? Or are you wrestling with trying to make a sound decision that could impact so much of your future? We’re constantly making decisions, but what about the big ones? The ones that take days, months or even years to make. There’s so much pressure to make the right decision and what I’ve learned in this short life is that decisions have a beautiful way of teaching me to trust and to be trusted. It’s a gift of knowing that gleams inside me and allows me to appreciate the journey this decision is taking me on.
This journey of appreciation and a conscious effort not to take for granted every lesson along the way, makes room for our worlds to expand allowing compassion to settle in. We learn that by trusting ourselves from within - that gut feeling, intuition, spirit rising - gives us confidence to trust the decision that’s been made and the next one to come. That’s the beauty of being alive. We get to travel inside this world learning the “how to" after a decision. We get to learn how to become a more understanding being. How to be more fierce. How to have more patience. How to lean into the flow of goodness. How to love deeper. How to appreciate every step as we go. So, as you are confronted with decisions and the un-certainty of walking into a made decision, welcome it with open arms and relaxed shoulders. Everything you need is within you, surrounding you, cheering you on the entire way.
